MassDOT to talk sidewalks in Dennis Port May 6

Route 28 improvements, sidewalk project will be part of South Side Civic Association meeting

The next South Side Civic Association meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Dennis Public Library, 5 Hall Street in Dennis Port. A representative from the Town of Dennis Engineering Department will be on hand to discuss Phase 2 of the state's Route 28 project. A representative from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), may also be in attendance.

The Route 28 project, Project 606707, is slated to begin during summer 2016. The project includes the improvement of "multi-modal accommodation" through ADA-compliant sidewalks. Street lighting, new plantings and "streetscape elements" are also part of the redesign.

As of the end of March, 25 percent of the project plans had been received, according to MassDOT. The Dennis Engineering Department is responsible for the design and the work will be done by the state. Funding for the project is through the 2016 Transportation Improvement Program for the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization. The project is expected to cost more than $3 million.

The SSCA meeting will include a presentation about the project with a question and answer period. The meeting is open to the public. Dennis Port residents and business owners are encouraged to attend.

More information about the project is available on the MassDOT website.
