Cape Cod United Way to host two-day shred-a-thon

Great cause, good way to get rid of unwanted documents

The United Way of Cape Cod is hosting a two-day shred-a-thon event in May. Two days, two locations and the chance to get rid of a mountain of unwanted documents. Day one will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at TD Bank, 226 Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Hyannis. Day two will be held on Wednesday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at TD Bank, 536 Main Street (Route 28) in Harwich Port.

The cost to shred is a $25 donation for one banker box, $10 donation per banker box for non-profits. Big volume discounts are available by calling 508-775-4746.  Participants may enter to win two Red Sox tickets during the shred-a-thon.

With the ever-present threat of identity theft, shredding is one of the best ways to protect your name and your credit. Old bank statements, receipts, pre-approved bank credit card applications, unwanted legal and tax documents and anything bearing your social security number should be shredded.

Shredding will be available both days, rain or shine.

The event is sponsored by TD Bank and benefits the United Way of Cape Cod. The funds raised on Cape Cod are directed back into the Cape Cod community.
