Shining Sea Bikeway bridge work to begin June 1

Bridges over Fay Road in Woods Hole to be replaced

The Town of Falmouth announced this week that two wooden bridges on the Shining Sea Bikeway will be replaced. The work, which is necessitated by continued deterioration, will begin on Monday, June 1. This winter's extreme weather accelerated the deterioration, according to the town.

The two wooden bridges that span Fay Road in Woods Hole will be replaced one at at time by the Falmouth Department of Public Works. The decks and joists of each bridge will be replaced. Each bridge will take a couple of weeks to replace, according to Falmouth DPW.

While the bridge is closed, bikeway traffic will be detoured alongside the path.

Prior to the start of work, the Falmouth Parks Department will clear adjacent brush and trees to accommodate the detours.

The Shining Sea Bikeway is a paved 10.7-mile bike path. It runs from County Road in North Falmouth to the Steamship Authority Terminal in Woods Hole.
