Orleans selectmen to host proposed parking plan public meeting June 17

Residents will have the opportunity to comment on the parking plans for River Road and Cove Road town landings

Orleans selectmen will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall on School Road to discuss proposed plans for parking at two of the town's landings. The proposed parking plans for the River Road town landing and the Cove Road town landing are intended to address impact of seasonal visitors and to provide preference to Orleans residents, according to a notice from the town.

The town is proposing that during the summer, parking will be prohibited at both landings except for a limited area (13 truck/trailer spots and 2 truck/car spots at River Road town landing and 13 truck/trailer spots and 3 truck/car spots at Cove Road town landing).

The limited spots would be open only to vehicles displaying a valid Orleans resident transfer station sticker, resident beach sticker or resident mooring permit sticker. According to the town's website, there is currently no parking or boat launching permit required to use a town landing.

The Cove Road town landing offers access to Town Cove and the Nauset Harbor Estuary and the River Road town landing offers access to Meetinghouse River and Pond and the Pleasant Bay Estuary. Both have a launch ramp, according to the Coastal Access Guide for the Town of Orleans.

All area residents and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.
