Broken water main sends Sandwich paving project off course

Main Street top course paving will be put off for a few weeks

The Main Street paving project in Sandwich was thrown off course today following a water main break. According to a notice from the town, top course paving was started Wednesday morning, but was halted following the water main break near the Town Hall Annex which flooded the area.

Water had to be shut off to several of the properties in the area, the notice said. The Sandwich Water District Division was called in to fix the break.

The top course paving started Wednesday between River Street and Jarves Street will be postponed for a few weeks allowing the area to to settle. The Sandwich Water District will also confirm there are no other leaks before the project is started up again.

While the paving is postponed, the road will be completely open to through traffic.

Main Street paving from Jarves Street to Route 6A was completed on Wednesday, the notice said.

Beale Ave. will receive its final course on Thursday. On Friday, Boardwalk Road will be paved in the morning and Robin Road will be paved in the afternoon. Both roads will be closed while the paving is being done.
