Cape DA: body found at Route 6 rest area

UPDATE: Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office releases victim's name

BARNSTABLE - The body of an unidentified woman was found at a rest area on Route 6 early Saturday morning. According to a release from the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office, the body was discovered by a motorist at the eastbound rest area between Exits 6 and 7 around 4 a.m.

State Police Troopers were at the scene by 4:15 a.m.

Sunday afternoon, the DA's Office identified the female victim as 28-year-old Christine Ferreira of Hyannis.

The DA's Office is waiting on additional details from the autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, but said Ferreira died from "multiple stabbing injuries" and "multiple gunshot wounds".

The case is under investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office and Barnstable police.
