The Masonic Angels at Universal Lodge in Orleans are having a different kind of “bear week”, as they gather 100 teddy bears to be distributed to local children this week.

As part of their ongoing Beehive Winter Coat program, the Masonic Angel Foundation will be delivering 100 sets of mittens and hats this week to elementary schools in the Nauset region and the Cape Cod Children’s Place.

Along with the mittens and hats, the MAF is providing 34 young children’s backpacks they obtained from Staples. Three schools will receive a total of 100 teddy bears for pre-school kids and younger siblings who attend holiday events at the schools.

The Orleans Masons have distributed 91 brand new winter coats so far this season.  Coats went to kids at elementary schools in Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Nauset Regional Middle School and Cape Cod Children’s Place in Eastham.

The mittens and hats were funded by a donation from the family of Jimmy Higgins, a young Mason who passed away in 2013.  The backpacks were underwritten by a donation from the Christopher Huntoon Trust.  The bears were donated by MAF co-founder and president, Robert Fellows.
