Mashpee 13-year-old struck by car, killed

Police release names of driver, victim

MASHPEE - A 13-year-old from Mashpee was struck by a car and killed Tuesday night. According to a Mashpee police release, officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Quinaquisset Avenue and Mashpee Neck Road around 8:29 p.m.

The teen, who has been identified as Jeremiah Smith, had been walking when he was struck by a Subaru Impreza traveling east on Quinaquisset Avenue, the release said.

Mashpee firefighters transported the victim to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family at this time," Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said.

Police later identified the driver as 55-year-old Constantinos Mitrokostas of Mashpee. 

A section of the roadway was closed while the scene was investigated and cleared. The crash is being investigated by members of the Mashpee Police Department, the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team, the release said.

Police did not indicate if Mitrokostas will face any changes.
