The Community Development Partnership (CDP) will offer two workshops to support local small business owners this November. One is for individuals in the early stages of developing a business, while the other is focused on supporting established businesses with growth in mind. Both workshops are made possible by support from The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, according to a release from the CDP.
Sheryl Walsh, Senior Vice President and Chief Consumer and Business Banking Officer at the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod said, “We are pleased to once again offer our support to the Community Development Partnership to host their Smart Start and Grow Smart series of workshops, which help to foster sustainable economic development in the places that we live and seek to thrive. The CDP is a tremendous resource for entrepreneurs and we are so proud to continue to support them in their worthwhile endeavors.”
The Grow Smart workshop is up first. Starting on Tuesday, November 1st, the 3-part workshop is targeted towards established small business owners interested in growing, improving and/or refreshing their operations. Working in a confidential setting, the interactive workshop will allow business owners to share their challenges and learn strategies to improve their operations. Topics include understanding the financial health of the business; making more money; managing employees and professional services; setting up systems; balancing home and work; keeping-up with & using technology; and staying inspired to grow.
Classes will continue on Thursday, November 3rd and Thursday November 10th. Each class will run from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Provincetown Town Hall at 260 Commercial Street in Provincetown. The workshop will be led by Glen Ohlund, CDP's Director of Economic Development. Guest Speakers include: Christine Cox, CFO Services and Rick Miller of Rick Miller Business Consulting.
The Smart Start workshop will be offered on three consecutive Mondays, beginning on November 7th. The workshop will prepare participants with the information and skills needed to get started in business, including creating a carefully thought out concept; conducting an assessment of entrepreneurial strengths; analyzing the product or service and market; and finding a mentor and a network of business resources. Those who attend will walk away with a clearer picture of the viability and financial feasibility of the business idea, and with the foundation for a business plan.
The classes run from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM on each date and will be held in the CDP Conference Room at 3 Main Street Mercantile, Unit 8 in Eastham. The class will be co-led by the CDP’s Director of Economic Development, Glen Ohlund, and Susan Johnson of SMG Coaching and Consulting.
“For many, starting or growing a business is a daunting task,” said Jay Coburn, CDP’s Executive Director. “Our Grow Smart & Smart Start workshops are a great resource to learn new skills and connect with other business owners for mutual support. We are so appreciative of the support from the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod to help make these workshops possible.”
Space is Limited and pre-registration is required. The fee for each workshop is $75. For more information and to register, go to the CDP’s website at www.capecdp.org or contact Glen Ohlund at the CDP - (508) 240-7873 x13 or [email protected]
