Letter in support of Ron Beaty for County Commissioner

Mashpee resident supports Beaty candidacy

Editor:

I write to indicate my strong support for Ron Beaty, the only candidate for Barnstable County Commissioner who has consistently demonstrated his unwavering devotion to the principles of open government, accountability, and transparency regarding our Cape Cod Regional Government.

According to the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, "the purpose of the Open Meeting Law is to ensure transparency in the deliberations on which public policy is based.  Because the democratic process depends on the public having knowledge about the considerations underlying governmental action, the Open Meeting Law requires, with some exceptions, that meetings of public bodies be open to the public.  It also seeks to balance the public’s interest in witnessing the deliberations of public officials with the government’s need to manage its operations efficiently."

In recent years, Beaty has monitored, and when necessary, filed official Open Meeting Law Complaints against County and municipal commissions,  boards, and committees when they have ignored or violated the Open Meeting Law, to the detriment of the public interest.

As our County Commissioner, Ron Beaty will bring this same refreshing diligence and public advocacy to the forefront of all activities involving County Government.

Please join me in voting for Ron Beaty on November 8.
