"Economics of Climate Change" at BSU Cape Cod

Bridgewater State University's "Ask the Professor" series of free presentations continues at the University's South Yarmouth campus.  

Join them on Tuesday, October 25th at 6 p.m. for a lecture on "The Economics of Climate Change" by Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics.

The evening will kick off with a lecture and then you have an opportunity to ask questions and get to know our faculty in an informal setting.   The lecture is free and open to the public.

Climate change is not a new phenomenon; it has always existed. However, the cause and pattern of climate change experienced and captured in the historical record deviates from what we are presently experiencing. In this brief one hour presentation, Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan will review the economic catalysts of present climate change activity and will provide an overview related to the near-term economic outcomes, including global social and environmental impacts.

Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bridgewater State University. Her present academic interests are specific to the integration of sustainability into the economics curriculum and she is currently pursuing scholarly interests in sustainable development. Prior to re-entering academics, Madhavi held senior level positions in investor relations for three Fortune 250 companies. In this capacity she was a key point of contact for investors and stakeholders and was instrumental in the development of socially responsible investing strategies and corporate social responsibility reporting. Madhavi started her financial services career after completing her post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. She earned a PhD, MA, and BA in Economics from Vanderbilt University, a Masters in Environmental Management from Harvard University, and a Masters in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School. She is the author of Economic Principles: A Primer, A Framework for Sustainable Practices. She presently serves as the Associate Director for the Center for Economic Education at Bridgewater State University.
