Bourne Democrats meet November 17th, focus on gun violence

Featuring Cape Cod Grandmothers Against Gun Violence

The Bourne Democratic Town Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Bourne Veterans Memorial Community Center, Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Kathleen Glueck of Falmouth, president of Cape Cod Grandmothers Against GunViolence, is the guest speaker.

Cape Cod Grandmothers Against GunViolence is a non-profit grass roots organization based on Cape Cod with the goal of raising awareness about gun violence. The group was created in January 2013 in the aftermath of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Its members do not oppose guns per se. They oppose gun violence and are currently focusing on two goals: background checks for gun purchases and deeming gun trafficking a federal crime.

Also on the agenda are discussions pertaining to the Dec. 6 special election in Bourne and the results of the presidential election.

The meeting is open to the public.
