Sheriff Cummings sworn in for fourth term

Sheriff James Cummings was sworn in today for a fourth term as Barnstable County Sheriff.  The oath of office was administered by Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito in a ceremony held at Cape Cod Community College.

Sheriff Cummings was re-elected by a margin of more than 29,000 votes in an acrimonious race against Democrat Randy Azzato.

Cummings is known for his proactive work on addiction issues.  He has said he wishes to focus on inmate mental health issues this term.
