HYCC Hosts High School All Star Basketball Games

Sunday, March 19th at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center

The Hyannis Youth & Community Center will once again play host to the Annual Cape & Islands High School All-Star Games on Sunday, March 19th! Girls game will begin at 1:15PM and the Boys will tip-off at 4:00PM in the Gymnasium. Admission is available at the door. Adults: $8 Students and Seniors 55+: $3. Kids 5 and Under are FREE.

Opposing teams (Upper Cape –White and Lower Cape – Red) in both Boys and Girls Leagues are made up of players selected for their outstanding skill and efforts contributing to their team
during the 2016-17 season. (Rosters are below).

The Girls’ All-Star game originated in 1985 when the Cape Cod Amateur Basketball League sponsored the first game between the Amateur League All Star Women and The High School All-Star girls and won 96-90. The Boys’ All-Star game began in 1987 when the Cape Cod High
School Alumni played the Cape Cod High School All-Stars and had a dramatic 106-105 victory.

Longtime organizer of the historical event, Al Faria has kept track of the best teams, players and alumni throughout the years. He continues to keep a list of the all-time scoring records and compiles game notes each year. Although there will be no alumni games this year, spectators can look forward to a special “Gone But Not Forgotten” tribute to coaches and players who have passed. The Frank Finn All Star Awards, Kim Craft MVP Award and the Fred Thacher MVP Award will be given at the end of the game. Special recognition is given to recently deceased Coaches Leo Miller and Roy Porter.

“We are excited to once again host this special event that all the athletes, their families and fans look forward to every year,” said Joe Izzo, HYCC General Manager. “Al’s contributions have been a key element to making it fun for the young athletes to play alongside their competitors, as well as a privilege to be chosen and added to his list. I always look forward to seeing the energy and excitement this post-season All-Star contest generates!”

The HYCC is a 105,000 sq. ft. full service community center that primarily services the youth of the Town of Barnstable and the surrounding school districts’ athletic departments, after-school programs, hockey and figure skating competitive organizations and community groups, as well as the many families who reside within a one-mile radius of the facility.

The mission of the HYCC is to provide state-of-the-art accessible facilities for a variety of recreational programs and special events, competitive sports organizations, after school activities and opportunities for the community at large to foster educational excellence and physical
growth across all generations.
