Scam alert from Dennis Police: "Rental Scams"

If a deal is too good to be true, then it's not...

Timely reminder from Dennis Police:

We've been notified of rental scams that are already popping up, especially on Craigslist. Remember, if the deal is too good to be true, then it's not true. Please don't wire any money for a rental. If you do find rentals through this, or similar means, please do some research before sending off deposits or paying off the rental. The new target is also the seasonal and foreign workers looking for summer lodging.

Too many times each of the past few summers has a family with the car packed, fresh off of a long car ride, sitting in traffic, complete with crying kids pulled into the police station to report they were scammed out of money, and now have no vacation.

Don't ruin a vacation! Use a realtor, check up on the owners/agents of rental homes, make phone calls, etc. Be safe out there!
