Four locals graduate from Colgate

Members of the Class of 2017 received their diplomas May 21 at the 196th Colgate University Commencement. Poet and Yale professor Claudia Rankine delivered the keynote address.

  • Julia Cooper, Spanish major Magna Cum Laude. Cooper is a graduate of Martha's Vineyard Regional HS, from Edgartown, MA (02539).
  • Dana Jacobs, Political Science major Summa Cum Laude. Jacobs is a graduate of Transfer/Adv Standing, from Vineyard Haven, MA (02568).
  • Olivia Miller, Economics & Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies major Cum Laude. Miller is a graduate of Nauset Regional High School, from Harwich, MA (02645).
  • Jessica O'Malley, Physics major Cum Laude. O'Malley is a graduate of Falmouth Academy, from North Falmouth, MA (02556).
  • Colgate University is a highly selective residential liberal arts institution distinguished by its commitment to global engagement, student-faculty research, off-campus study, sustainable practices, and the utilization of technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

Colgate offers 55 majors to a diverse student body of approximately 2,900 undergraduate students, and supports 25 Division I athletic teams. The university's 575-acre campus in rural central New York is renowned for its beauty and for the important role it plays in the student experience.
