Cape Cod Low Vision Summit on June 8th

All seniors, caregivers and industry professionals are welcome...

The 3nd Annual Cape Cod Low Vision Summit for Seniors will be held Thursday June 8, 2017 from 9:30am – 12:00pm and all seniors, caregivers and industry professionals are encouraged to attend. The only one of its kind in the area, the summit recognizes the ongoing and ever-increasing need for education and resources for those with low vision on Cape Cod. Free and open to the public, the summit will be held at Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth, beginning at 9:30am with registration and a continental breakfast followed by a series of short presentations focused on education and resources available to those with low or impaired vision. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to try a number of adaptive aids on display.

Featured topics and speakers include: Local resources for Cape Codders with low or impaired vision with Cynthia Stead, Sight Loss Services, Inc.  Cape Cod and Islands; Public transportation on Cape Cod with Paula George, Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority; Tips to save money on prescription drugs with Kathy Devine, Executive Office of Elder Affairs, Prescription Advantage Program; Lighting for low vision with Stu Flom, Founder AdaptaVision; and, Age-related macular degeneration with Dr. David Reed, Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.

Experts predict that by 2030, rates of vision loss will double along with the country’s aging population. With resources and guidance from local, regional and national organizations, those with low vision have an excellent opportunity to make adjustments to master alternative daily living techniques and new skills, allowing those with limited vision to have unlimited opportunities.

The summit is a free event, but advance registration is required due to limited seating. Please call Thirwood Place at 508-398-8006 to register. Additional details and directions are available at www.thirwoodplace.com/summit.

Thirwood Place is owned and managed by The Davenport Companies. Established in 1956, The Davenport Companies remain family owned and operated. For more information on Thirwood Place, please visit www.thirwoodplace.com or contact Larry Lyford at 508-398-8006.
