Reservations required by September 20th

The Association to Preserve Cape Cod will hold its annual meeting and awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 27, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Dennis Inn, 25 Scarsdale Road, Dennis.

Featured speaker at the annual meeting is Paul Niedzwiecki, executive director of the Cape Cod Commission, who will give a presentation on “Cape Cod: A Tale of Two Economies.”

Several Cape Cod environmental heroes will be honored at the annual meeting.

John Marksbury and Chuck Steinman of Truro will receive the Paul Tsongas Environmental Recognition Award for spearheading local grassroots efforts that led to the successful adoption of a zoning bylaw to limit the size of houses in Truro’s portion of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

APCC’s Esther Snyder Award for Environmental Excellence will be presented to Gary Moran, deputy commissioner of operations and environmental compliance for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Moran is being honored by APCC for his long career as a dedicated protector of the environment in general, with a particular focus on the restoration and protection of the coastal resources of Cape Cod, and his role as the state’s lead in the cleanup of the Cape’s estuaries and bays.

Betsy Gladfelter of Falmouth will be given the APCC Special Recognition Award for her leadership in the initiative to restore Falmouth’s Coonamessett River to a natural stream, including her efforts to gain public support for the project.

Election for positions on the organization’s board of directors will also take place at the meeting. Kris Ramsay of Brewster has been nominated for his first term on the board. Margo Fenn of West Yarmouth, Blue Magruder of Barnstable and Robert Summersgill of East Orleans have each been nominated to serve another term on the board.

The annual meeting is open to APCC members and the general public. Refreshments will be served.
