Scam alert from Sandwich Police Department:

SCAM ALERT:

We have had multiple reports today from residents claiming they were contacted by someone representing himself as a Sergeant from the Barnstable County Court. The caller advised our residents that they failed to show up for Federal Jury Duty, and if they did not pay a fine, they would be arrested. The caller then attempts to take some form of payment over the phone. The calls today have requested the resident purchase a “prepaid debit card” and “make sure it works.”

Please do not provide your personal information to anyone calling by phone. The phone number provided is fictitious, and has no name associated with it. Upon calling the number back, it is answered by a live person or there is an option to leave a voicemail on the number provided. The person on the voicemail very clearly pronounces “Barnstable” incorrectly.

We encourage residents receiving any calls like this to hang up and not provide any information.

Legitimate court business can be conducted in person, or by calling the Barnstable District Court.
