Bourne Selectman Michael Blanton was held without bail today after being arraigned on serious charges in Falmouth District Court.

He is alleged to have assaulted a woman, threatened her with a baseball bat and threatened to kill her during an argument Sunday.  The alleged victim summoned Bourne Police to a residence on Sandwich Road where she reported the incident.

According to the police report, the woman said Blanton became agitated, grabbed her by the throat and collarbone and forced her to the ground.  He allegedly threatened to kill her during the altercation.  The victim told police that, when she tried to stand up, Blanton slammed her head repeatedly up and down on the floor.

The 49-year-old Blanton was charged with assault and battery on a household/family member, assault with a dangerous weapon, intimidation of a witness, threatening to commit a crime and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Blanton entered a plea of not guilty.  He is being held pending a dangerousness hearing.

Michael Blanton is a first-term selectman who is up for re-election this year.  He is also active with the Bourne Democratic Town Committee.
