Eversource Restoration Update 3/14/18 at 6 p.m.

Company estimates vast majority of customers to have power back by Friday night by midnight

BOSTON (March 14, 2018) – Eversource line and tree crews, working non-stop alongside hundreds of out-of-state utility workers from as far as Florida, Arizona, and Louisiana, continue working to restore power to hundreds-of-thousands of customers following yesterday’s latest round of severe weather. The heavy, wet snow and damaging winds caused falling trees and limbs to tear down power lines and snap utility poles across the region, especially the South Shore, South Coast and Cape Cod. Eversource crews are assessing damage and working directly with communities to clear hundreds of blocked roads. Since the blizzard began, crews have restored power to 300,000 homes and businesses.  Eversource estimates the vast majority of Eversource customers currently without power in Greater New Bedford and on Martha’s Vineyard will have it restored by Thursday night at midnight, and Friday night by midnight for the South Shore and Cape Cod.  Many customers will have power restored sooner. 

“We understand how difficult it is being without power and we’re working non-stop to get power back for everyone affected by this latest blast of winter,” said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Doug Foley. “We’re using helicopters and off-road track vehicles to quickly identify damaged lines as well as off-road track vehicles to check for other locations that need repair. This is an all-out effort with an army of crews working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

The company urges customers to always stay clear of downed wires and to report them immediately to 9-1-1.  They can report an outage online at www.eversource.com, or by calling 800-592-2000. Those who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
