The Party's Over for Toys R Us

"Toys R Us Kids" lose a bit of their childhood...
Cape Cod is about to bid a fond farewell to its Toys R Us store (Classic Toys R Us commercial ending)

Okay kids and adults, it's time to say a loving farewell to Geoffrey the Giraffe

Barring a miracle "white knight", the Toys R Us store on Route 132 in Hyannis will soon close its doors.  The parent company's bankruptcy court filings indicate that liquidation sales could begin immediately with a final wind-down date of July 31st.

The iconic chain has 735 stores in the US and 33,000 employees.

There has been a toy store at the Festival plaza in Hyannis ever since it was built in the late 1980's.  Formerly the site of the Hyannis Drive-In, the Festival opened with a Child World store.  Toys R Us replaced them when Child World liquidated in 1992.  There are many parents today visiting the store with their kids who were themselves "Toys R Us Kids" of the 80's and 90's.

The chain also operates a Babies R Us store next to the Hyannis Toys R Us.

We will miss this iconic toy emporium, now rendered obsolete by online retailers and big box stores like Target and Walmart.
