Letter: Term Limits Proposed for All Barnstable County Elected Officials

from County Commissioner Ron Beaty

Letter to the Editor

Editor:

I have recently proposed a County Home Rule Charter change regarding Term Limits.

I formally propose that all elected Barnstable County officials be limited to serving three (3) consecutive terms in a position!

Term limits would provide new people with innovative ideas to elected County office.

Moreover, term limits will reduce the influence of special interests and extremist political pressure groups (like Indivisible), as well as greatly enhance citizen involvement in our Cape Cod Regional Government.

Additionally, term limits provide a vital restriction on the unnecessary concentration of power by officials, reinforces democracy, and also helps maintain long-term governmental stability.

Finally, open, transparent and accountable regional government is augmented and enhanced.

Please support this worthwhile effort and proposal for term limits on all elected County officials.

Thank you.

RONALD BEATY

Vice-Chairman

Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners
