County Commissioner Ron Beaty

Barnstable County Commissioner Ron Beaty once again finds himself drawing global attention after thehill.com published a story about his Twitter remarks concerning Parkland student David Hogg, a popular target of many pro-gun and right wing supporters.

In the past several days, Beaty has referred to young Mr. Hogg as "a communist pig," "an absolute idiot", "self-promoting, opportunistic rat" and "a two-bit punk".

The Cape Cod Student Board and Grandmothers Against Gun Violence have denounced Beaty's statements concerning David Hogg.

Commissioner Beaty is mounting a primary challenge to fellow Republican State Rep. Randy Hunt (R-Sandwich) for the Fifth Barnstable District seat in the state legislature. Beaty was elected County Commissioner in 2016.  He is up for re-election in 2020.

Mr. Beaty remains defiant in his stance on David Hogg and gun control in general.  An apology will not be forthcoming.
