Editorial: Should We Have Death Penalty for Cop Killers?

How do you feel? Contact your elected officials...

This week's senseless murder of Yarmouth Police K9 Officer Sean Gannon has brought terrible grief to our Cape Cod community.  It has also evoked a strong, Cape-wide show of support for police.

Is it time for Massachusetts to institute a death penalty for cop killers?  Many people think so.

How do you feel?  For starters, please vote in our poll.

We also encourage you to contact our elected officials to let them hear your feelings on the topic.  You can find the contact info for our entire legislative delegation here, courtesy of the Cape Cod League of Women Voters.

This morning we sent an email to our state legislators and state senators asking them for a "Yes or No" response to the question "Will you support a bill to institute the death penalty for cop killers?"

Each official was ask for a yes-or-no response and a statement of up to two paragraphs.  We will publish those responses, verbatim, as we receive them.

On this Sunday morning, please pause for a moment to reflect on the life, service and sacrifice of Officer Sean Gannon.
