The Barnstable Recreation Division presents its annual Skate Park Competition outside the Hyannis Youth & Community Center on 141 Bassett Lane, Hyannis this Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Noon.  Entry Fee is just $5 and prizes will be awarded to each age group in skateboard, bmx and scooter categories.  Through the generosity and support of local business owner Lou Nickinello, new ramps and rails were added to the Park and the Town of Barnstable's Department of Public Works repaired and painted the California-style bowls and other areas where it was needed.  There will be a short ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon to acknowledge all of the staff and community members that helped with the repairs and updated equipment, followed immediately by the competition and an awards ceremony with a competitors cookout with support from Stop 'n Shop, Cape Cod Potato Chips and Coca Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod.

The Skate Park is operated and staffed by the Town of Barnstable's Recreation Division of the Community Services Department.  It is open seasonally from April through November Tuesday-Sunday (Closed on Mondays and during inclement weather).  Hours vary and are extended during school vacations.  Admission is free and helmets are required.  Helmets and other protective gear are available for rent at the Skate Shack located in the park.  For more information call 508-790-6345 or visit welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
