Animal Hospital of Orleans is State's First "Fear Free Certified Practice"

15th veterinary hospital in North America to be certified...
Animal Hospital of Orleans earns prestigious certification

ORLEANS, MA - Congratulations to The Animal Hospital of Orleans for becoming the first Fear FreeSM Certified Veterinary Practice in Massachusetts.  Fear-Free is an international training and certification program created to help veterinarians utilize the latest behavioral techniques to help pets feel safe and comfortable while receiving the medical care they need.  Only 14 other veterinary practices in North America have completed this rigorous certification program.

The Fear-FreeSM program was developed by board-certified veterinary behaviorists & anesthetists, veterinary technician behavior specialists and practice management experts. The process is very comprehensive and achieving certification requires successfully incorporating Fear Free in all aspects hospital culture and leadership, including client education, staff training, facility and patient experience.

In preparation for the certification inspection, last year every member of the Animal Hospital of Orleans healthcare team became Fear Free certified professionals – the first veterinary hospital on Cape Cod to have a 100% fear-free certified staff.  Every team member completed a comprehensive 8-part educational course and exam.

“It has always been important to us to make your pet’s veterinary visit as pleasant as possible.” says Renee Lincoln, CVT, and practice manager at the Animal Hospital of Orleans. “Becoming Fear FreeSM Certified Professionals has taught us to better recognize fear, anxiety, and stress in dogs and cats and to adjust our approach in handling to help reduce that stress during their visit.”

Fully embracing the Fear Free culture and incorporating behavioral advances such as pheromones, color therapy, non-pharmaceutical calming agents, clinically-tested pet friendly music and other fear free techniques has resulted in a more rewarding experience for patients, clients, and the veterinary health care team.  According to practice owner, Karen Bohon DVM., “I think Fear Free is the future of veterinary medicine.”  Pet owners who would like their pets to experience the Fear Free difference can schedule an appointment by calling 508 255-1194.
