Gay and Lesbian Equity Fund of CC Foundation Announces Grantees

Six local non-profits to receive grants...

SOUTH YARMOUTH – The GALE (Gay and Lesbian Equity) Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation has awarded $4,750 in grants to six local nonprofit organizations for their work supporting issues facing the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community.

Since GALE’s inception in 1998, the fund has raised and distributed more than $255,000 to local organizations offering projects and programs that improve the lives of LGBTQ individuals and their families on Cape Cod and the Islands.

This year’s grantees are:

Barnstable Senior Center, $1,000

To support the SAGE Table Project in November 2018.  This one-day event is part of a nationwide movement to build inter-generational connections in the LGBTQ community. Participants share a meal with LGBTQ people and allies of different generations to promote understanding through facilitated discussions.

Cape Cod Pride, Inc., $500

To support programs for the annual Cape Cod Pride Day Festival, held in June.  The day-long event celebrating the LGBTQ community includes speakers, games, activities, and entertainment.

Homeless Prevention Council, $1,000

To support a program for youth between the ages of 16-24 who are financially unstable or have other barriers preventing them from being housed or economically self-sufficient.  The program helps youth: identify and address issues impeding their success; stay in or locate safe, affordable, year-round housing; access programs that preserve income to cover housing costs; receive necessary services from collaborating agencies to achieve long-term results.

Orleans Senior Center, $1,000

To support programming for the Lower Cape LGBT Senior group at the Center and enhance outreach to the LGBTQ population of the Lower Cape.

The Yard, Inc., $500

To support the Martha's Vineyard Pride, Not Prejudice event, part of the 2018 Yard Arts Summer Season. The event, featuring music, dance, comedy, arts & crafts, storytelling and children’s activities gives islanders and visitors the opportunity to support LGBTQ artists and celebrate diversity, equality, and acceptance.
