Program on St. Mary of Magdala

June 22nd in East Harwich

How was early Christianity affected by views of women at the time?

This question is at the heart of an upcoming presentation by Libbie Schrader, Duke University doctoral candidate in Early Christianity. The program, “St. Mary of Magdala in the Gospel of John” highlights Ms. Schrader’s research on how portrayals of the saint changed to dilute her authority in the earliest period of Christianity.

A musician and songwriter as well as student of religion, Ms. Schrader will also perform a portion of her album “Magdalene” and CDs of the album will be available at the presentation.

The program is sponsored by St. Mary of Magdala Church, an ecumenical Catholic church which now shares space at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at 310 Route 137, East Harwich, MA. The program begins at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

The program is intended for general audiences and would interest to scholars too. For more information, visit
