The Big 3 Fishing Tournament, held on July 13, has raised more than $385,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands. This represents the most money raised at the event since inception 5 years ago.
The event was held this past Friday at the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich. The fishing tournament took place from 5am – 2pm followed by an evening cocktail receptions on the beach.
More than 300 people were in attendance with over 43 boats. The biggest fish caught was a 261 lb. tuna by Sam Jaxtimer on “Thresher”. In the bass & blues category, the winners were Jeff Perry on ”First Light” with a 38 lb. bass, and Fran Kenney on “Gabbiano” with a 13.8 lb. Blue Fish.
“This is the largest fundraiser for our agency” said JR Mell, Regional Director of BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands. “This event brings together a love of fishing and our community, all while making a direct impact on the Cape & Islands and the kids we serve. I am so thankful to the Big 3 committee, co-chaired by E.J. & Terry Jaxtimer and Jeff Leerink, for their hard work to make this such a success.”
With the help of the Big 3 Fishing Tournament, BBBS is on track to serve over 400 kids by 2020. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering for BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands, or making a donation, please visit www.capebigs.org.
