Press release (verbatim) from Joe Glynn for County Assembly campaign:
Yarmouth Housing Authority Commissioner Joe Glynn, a Candidate challenging the current County Assembly Chair to represent Yarmouth as the town's County Assembly Delegate, has proposed a business/tourism, eco-friendly solution that would be funded by the county in an effort to return deeds tax to cape towns.
Glynn commented, in a statement that coincides with his qualification and announcement that he is officially on the Nov. ballot for the non-partisan position. "The County has to start coming up with reasonable solutions to problems while justifying town deeds tax, by proving resources/funding and workable solutions instead of inflamed rhetoric and deafening silence extremes."
Glynn said: "Shooting Sharks and 'Seal Slaughter' is as unpalatable as mass negative media attention, injury or death to people or our tourist economy." "The simple common sense solution is for the Barnstable County to provide funding for towns to purchase swimming area buoys, weights and permeable barriers that protect swimming areas but allow Mother Nature to work her course. This does not address Federal protection acts, or Fishing concerns that should be a discussion of federal Candidates"!
Glynn proclaims:"This is the type of issue that the legislative body of the county should be providing solutions instead of an individual grandstanding Commissioner bringing negative attention to the towns of our county.
"Each town could designate their swimming areas and method of implementation." "Town leaders could designate Beach Staff, Recreation Depts., Harbor Masters or Public Safety Officials for design and placement. It could be as easy as lifeguards laying out buoys at low tide at the beginning of the season and a town water craft to put out Boundary Buoys with weights. then the side curtains could be as big or small to let everything but Sharks and seal size animals or be a way to keep that area clean with a permeable protective barrier." Glynn explained.
"The great part is the towns and cape show they are sensitive and safe to all parties. the Business Community, the Taxpayers, Town Employees/Officials and Tourist win and everybody is safe and happy!"
Great Towns! Great Sharks! Great Beaches! Great Businesses! Great People, Great Leadership= Great Tourism!
