From the Wareham Department of Natural Resources:
This morning officers from Wareham Animal Control and Natural Resources returned to the area of last weeks motor vehicle accident on Route 25 where in addition to the horrific accident a cat was ejected from a vehicle. The owners of the missing cat after spending almost five days in the hospital met us on Tihonet Road to search the area using their “LoCATer” tracking device that can detect the transmitter on the cats collar.
WDNR dispatched an off-road vehicle and equipped it with the “LoCATer” tracking device in an attempt to cover more area. The areas of Tihonet Road, adjacent cranberry bogs, surrounding wooded areas and Route 25 were checked without any luck. The WDNR Officer then expanded his search closer to Farm To Market Road off of Tihonet Road. While approaching Farm to Market Road the officer detected a signal within the area of A.D. Makepeace Company Headquarters! The search party met in the parking lot and started tracking the signal on foot. After walking around the complex a strong signal was detected coming from one of the old work buildings. As the group was looking at the building the elusive cat popped its head out of a hole in the wall and meowed! Tears of joy streamed from the owners faces as they confirmed it was their beloved missing cat Gussy. Employees from A. D. Makepeace were able to let the officers gain access to the building and the cat was located under the floor of the building. With the kitty making us work for pretty much everything, Officers were able to crawl under the building floor with one of the owners and safely retrieved the cat.
This search was nothing short of a miracle for the owners and none of us can believe where the cat ended up in relation to where the accident occurred!!! We could not be happier to reunite the owners with their beloved cat, safe and uninjured. Thank you all that helped!!
