Presentation & Listening Session: Town Planner and Planning Board Members
The following quotes were concerns expressed by Chatham Residents in
the 2016 Council on Aging Needs Assessment Study:
“I am concerned about finding suitable and affordable housing options, should I choose
to downsize my current home or move due to aging issues.”
“I am concerned about being able to afford the upkeep and expenses of my home.”
“My great concern is lack of places for our young people (grandchildren) to live
and work-our extended family leaving us here alone.”
“Our street does not have many year-round residents. I need and want more people around us.”
Based on this study, as well as others, The Planning Board has identified the need for additional year round, attainable housing in Chatham. The Board is currently working on a Protective (Zoning) Bylaw amendment to create Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). These ADUs, also known as accessory apartments, encourage aging in place for seniors and create new housing while maintaining the character of single family neighborhoods.
A presentation and listening session regarding the Planning Board’s proposed Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) bylaw will be held on September 24th at 1pm at the Council on Aging. This is your opportunity to speak with the Town’s Principal Planner and Planning Board members to gain more insight into this proposal and get your questions answered. We look forward to seeing you there! Consider joining us for Gourmet Luncheon Beforehand, at Noon; see details above. The Presentation is Free. Transportation is available. Reservations are required for lunch and the presentation.
