State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) today welcomed the endorsement of three of the state’s leading environmental advocacy and policy organizations in his re-election bid: the Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) Action Fund, Massachusetts Sierra Club, and Clean Water Action.

“The environment has always been an issue of deep importance to me. I am honored to receive the endorsement of three organizations engaged in critically important work to safeguard the environment. We must ensure that the Cape & Islands have the resources needed to clean up our bays and estuaries, withstand extreme weather events, and prepare for our changing climate,” said Cyr.

"Senator Cyr is a rising star in the next generation of state leadership. Representing a district vulnerable to climate change with abundant natural resources, he has been an effective voice calling for Massachusetts to lead. He understands the importance of our state investing in clean energy, sustainable transportation, and parks to help address climate change, create jobs, and build healthier communities,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Henry.

"During his first term as Senator, Julian Cyr has persistently pushed legislation to improve environmental stewardship,” said David Rudolph, political chair of the Massachusetts Sierra Club. “As a member of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture, he has worked to improve residential solar policies, wastewater management, and pollution control. We urge voters to return him to the Senate this fall."

Cyr recently secured $6 million for environmental infrastructure projects in the Cape & Islands district. Partnering with Representative Sarah Peake, Cyr spearheaded an effort to establish the Cape and Islands Water Protection Fund which would infuse much-needed resources into projects to remove excess nitrogen pollution from our bays and estuaries.

“It's important to have an environmental champion representing a district where the environment and the economy are so inextricably tied,” ELM Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien added. “He knows that in towns like Truro and across the state we need to build a clean energy economy that will power us into the future."

Cyr will speak to a meeting of Sierra Club members on Monday September 10th at 5:00 P.M. at 105 Division St in West Harwich.
