State Senator Julian Cyr

Press release from Senator Julian Cyr...

State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) today welcomed endorsement from two of the state’s leading grassroots entities that promote social justice and peace in his re-election bid: the Coalition for Social Justice and Massachusetts Peace Action.

“Social justice has long inspired my own public service,” said Cyr. “It means a lot to receive the public support of two grassroots groups who do so much to promote fairness, tolerance, and non-violence. I am honored to receive these endorsements.”

“Julian Cyr is a well rounded individual whose experience in organizing and public policy has helped inform the legislature and advocate for his constituents and the Commonwealth,” said Deb Fastino, Executive Director of the Coalition for Social Justice. “We enthusiastically support his re-election to the State Senate.”

“A new progressive voice in the State Senate and sponsor of a Single Payer bill, Julian Cyr deserves our support in his re-election bid,” said Mass Peace Action in an endorsement of Cyr sent to members.

The Coalition for Social Justice is actively organizing to support Cyr’s re-election bid. The Coalition has long been an organizing force in Southeastern Massachusetts.

About Coalition for Social Justice

The Coalition for Social Justice is dedicated to building a grassroots movement for progressive social change, rooted in communities that have been excluded from the economic benefits of the current system. Founded in 1994, the Coalition has a dual focus:  to recruit and develop leadership, especially from low income communities, and to build effective campaigns that address the economic survival issues that our constituency faces. The Coalition builds grassroots power through empowering low-income voters, building a large network of volunteers, holding elected officials accountable and building broad coalitions.

About Mass Peace Action

Massachusetts Peace Action is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to develop the sustained political power to foster a more just and peaceful U.S. foreign policy. Through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and community education, Mass Peace Action promotes human rights and global cooperation, seek an end to war and the spread of nuclear weapons, and support budget priorities that re-direct excessive military spending to meeting human and environmental needs in our communities. Peace Voter, a program of Massachusetts Peace Action, works to elect pro-peace candidates. The group is an affiliate of Peace Action, the nation's largest grassroots peace and disarmament membership organization, with more than 100,000 members and 30 chapters across the country.
