Letter - "Bold New Leadership the County Assembly Needs"

from Joe Glynn of Yarmouth

Letter to the editor,

Joe Glynn of Yarmouth is the Bold New Leadership the County Assembly needs!

The Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates at the very least, has been lacking bold leadership, as it takes a back seat to the county commissioners and every Tom, Dick and Harry, and their tweets, (one in particular) out there.  The legislative body wanders aimlessly, while the media relegates them to the backseat or more like the trunk.  How can we expect them to act seriously and propose reasonable proactive resolutions, when we don't demand that the simplest  profiles, vetting or attention to any of the races?  We have extended discussions of every towns' school boards (rightfully so) or even lower offices but are content that the players in our regional county government, remain always, the status quo by ignoring these races? We debate and hear comments/editorials on all subjects and are treated (or more accurately) forced fed non productive drivel/texts/comments/tweets and utter nonsense.

Exact Change to Exact Change

There are people running to exact change, or at least exact some change (loose coins) for our towns and taxpayers.  How can we get by the vitriol,, at all levels, if we ignore those who are proactive with reasonable solutions, while constantly quoting/encouraging the grandstanders wild pathology/ mentality?  The townspeople pay big money in taxes of all kinds to state, federal, town, and additional county taxes here in Barnstable County that other citizens in off Cape towns do not pay.  If we want to exact change in dysfunctional county government we need to exact change in choosing our county legislative body the assembly of delegates and especially the Chair from Yarmouth!

Proactive Solutions vs Sensationalist Grandstanding

The Assembly Chair, my opponent, cares enough (like I do), to run as Yarmouth's County Delegate but is more consumed with titles, than with solving problems or having dialogue or ANY discussion. (No conversation benefits only incumbents). The media has printed my views on County Restructure over years but rarely as part of election coverage. All of the media outlets have seen my proactive,  reasonable solutions and proposals on several important topics from the Fire Academy to county efficiency.  Many media members ignored my calls on the shark issue and then rewarded the dysfunction by printing old tweets/comments that were not mentioned in ANY State Rep. race or for a year, since ONE Commissioner got negative attention.  The media has consistently chosen, the sensationalism over substantive solutions, before, during and after the attacks.  We do not pay attention to the Assembly of Delegates races, that are Non-Partisan races, but we continue to laugh at the partisan train wrecks. We can have unopposed delegates (or races with no candidates at all-See Eastham Assembly Non-race), and we can assure that these races have no controversy or conversation and just have status quo incumbent monotone or we can demand Bold, New Leadership for our county governments legislative body.

Winning Hearts and Minds not just Winning Elections

I will put myself out there again but even my sincere resolve and persistence requires some concern by others.  We get what we deserve!  You know that I will do my part to speak truths, and submit proactive proposals. If you don't know me, then you either haven't voted, vetted candidates or have been deprived of the discussion., which is understandable with no Assembly media attention.  Regardless we must ask why? In any event you should demand change from this regional dysfunction.  Please consider stepping up by running by standing up and giving those who care to vote, a choice. It's not only about volunteering, or winning elections. Its a about winning hearts and minds to "exact some change"!

In the Town of Yarmouth, please consider sending a message by demanding Bold, New Leadership by voicing your choice by voting on November 6th,  for Joe Glynn Yarmouth's County Assembly Delegate.

Absentee Ballot/Early Voting is available now by mail or at Town Hall.
