AAA Reports Gas Prices Fell Another Four Cents

Average price for regular unleaded is $2.49/gallon

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down four cents this week, the lowest prices locally since last spring, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s January 7 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.49 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is twenty-six cents higher than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.23. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was one cent lower at $2.48.

“The lowest gasoline demand in nearly two years continues to drive prices lower,” said Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs. “At the same time the global crude oil market continues to be oversupplied which has led to lower oil prices. This is all good news for motorists filling up at the pump.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 70 cents, from a low of $2.19 to a high of $2.89. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
