We sadly report that nineteen year old Joel Ricketts, of Dennis Port, died Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Mr. Ricketts suffered critical injuries in a car crash while visiting family in Jamaica.  According to a post on his GoFundMe campaign page, Joe passed away Thursday at 10:08 after battling his injuries for three weeks. According to family friend Tiffany Miranda...

Update: On behalf of the Ricketts family. We would like to thank all who sent prayers and donated. Today at 10:08am Joel has passed. He put up a great fight for over 3 weeks. We would also like to thank all the Mass General medical team and staff for doing everything they could and for giving us all extra time with him and making sure he was comfortable. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers.

Family and friends raised over $38,000 to pay for a medical flight to bring Joel back to Mass General.  Donations were mostly modest in size - around $25 - and were made by 948 people as of early Friday morning.

The balance of the campaign funds will be utilized to pay for remaining medical costs and funeral expenses.

Funeral plans have not yet been announced.
