TWO ARRESTED FOR FENTYNYL
On Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 5:10PM, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officer Nick Ambrosini stopped a gray Nisan Altima bearing MA registration 55E490 on Run Pond Road in South Yarmouth for a motor vehicle violation.

Officer Ryan Brule arrived as a backup Officer and inside the vehicle, the Officers observed a folded up piece of magazine paper with a small quantity of grayish/white powder on the right side of the floor which was determined to be the deadly drug Fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine.

Pharmaceutical fentanyl was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients, applied in a patch on the skin. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse.

Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Many users believe that they are purchasing heroin and actually don’t know that they are purchasing fentanyl – which often results in overdose deaths. Clandestinely-produced fentanyl is primarily manufactured in Mexico.
