Letter in Defense of County Commissioner Ron Beaty

from Hal Shurtleff of West Roxbury

Dear Editor:

Barnstable County Commissioner Ron Beaty exercised his right to free speech by asking a question on his Twitter account concerning homosexuals and political office.  Because he dared to write something  "politically incorrect," some are demanding that he resign.  Did these same people who are demanding Mr. Beaty resign also demand Obama resign when he made his infamous ant-Christian, racist comment?

"They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Barack Obama

Did then demand that Hillary Clinton step down as the Democrat Party nominee for President when she referred to supporters of Donald Trump as "deplorables"?  Did they demand that Joe Biden resign when he made a racist comment about Obama?

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Joe Biden.

Did these same people demand that Barney Frank resign when it was discovered that his DC apartment was used as a brothel?   Did these same people demand that Gerry Studds resign when it was revealed that he was having sex with an underage page? Did they demand the resignation of Stan Rosenburg for his disgraceful activities? Did they demand that Denise Andrews resign when she made a false report against her opponent?

Mr. Beaty is an honorable man who courage of his convictions.  Our state is in need of more like him.
