Brewster Student at WPI Earns Weekly Track & Field Award

WORCESTER, MA (04/01/2019)-- Brian Brooks is one of six Worcester Polytechnic Institute student-athletes to earn a NEWMAC track & fIeld weekly honor.

WPI sophomore Keely Nistler and freshman Brian Brooks, of Brewster, MA, were named the NEWMAC Track Athletes of the Week while junior Nick Fleury, junior Alex Rus, sophomore Matt Adiletta and senior Antoine Harris collaborated to collect NEWMAC Relay of the Week honors for their performances at the Bryant Black and Gold Invitational.

Nistler, who was also named as the WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a PR and NEWMAC season-best time of 11:42.14. In addition to the 22nd-ranked time in Division III so far this season, the event featured two representatives from Holy Cross and one each from Siena and Bryant.

Brooks clocked the quickest 1,500-meter run amongst NEWMAC student-athletes last week with a time of 3:59.54.

The 4x100-meter relay won with a time of 41.95, which was just .05 ahead of the team from Brown. The NEWMAC-best time is also No. 8 on the NCAA Division III performance list.

Track and Field concludes its season-opening tour of Division I hosted meets with a trip to UMass for the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday.
