Barnstable Police Rescue Man from Hyannis Harbor

"Heavily intoxicated" man was trying to do laundry in the harbor...

Barnstable Police Officers pull intoxicated man from the frigid waters of Hyannis Harbor after he fell in while washing his clothes.

At about 2:00 am this morning Barnstable Police received a call from a witness who observed a man at the Ocean Street docks stumbling around trying to do laundry in the harbor water. When Officer Lima and Officer Valiga arrived, they found a pile of laundry on the dock and a male submerged in the harbor up to his neck while clinging to the floating pier. He was identified as a 57-year-old Hyannis man who was pulled from the water by Officers Lima and Valiga. The man had spent several minutes attempting to yell for help. The male was conscious and breathing and appeared to be heavily intoxicated. He told police he was trying to wash his clothes when he tumbled off the dock into the water. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Hyannis Rescue where he was admitted for treatment.

There are no pending charges at this time.
