Cape Cod Package Store Marks 80th Anniversary

A Centerville institution...

Cape Cod Package Store Fine Wine & Spirits proudly announces they are celebrating their 80th Anniversary this year, as a 3rd generation family business that has been female owned and operated for the past 9 years.

As a tribute to the company’s success and to the local community that has helped the store to thrive, they are planning several celebratory events for 2019. The events will highlight the trends and brands that have shaped the alcoholic beverage industry and our lifestyles. Cape Cod Package Store invites readers to share their personal shopping experiences and their favorite products or brands that have created special memories in a social media post, using #CapeCodPackageStore and #LastingMemories.

"Our store, along with the industry, has changed dramatically since our grandfather John J Pendergast, Sr. opened the doors in 1939. Still located in the heart of Centerville, it gives us great pride to share with our customers, when in the Wine Room, that we are standing in the exact spot of the original store. We owe our success to our Dad, Jack Pendergast, Jr., and the relationships we have with our customers, distributors, producers, suppliers, and our community, spanning many generations,” shares co-owner Danette Atsalis.

The Pendergast family has maintained deep roots in their local community by supporting many non-profit organizations through wine sponsorship and their individual involvement in many associations. With an expanded selection of craft beers and craft spirits, featuring many local breweries and distilleries, the store remains committed to supporting the local economy and fellow businesses.

Expanding their services beyond the brick and mortar, today Cape Cod Package Store offers an online shopping experience through their website and their very own App, which is complimented by a local delivery service.

Opened in 1939 by John J. Pendergast, Sr. and his wife Sylvia Johnson, Cape Cod Package Store was one of the first liquor license establishments on Cape Cod after Prohibition. From the mid 1950’s until 2010, under the leadership of John J Pendergast Jr., the business continued to evolve and remain competitive by responding to the demands of the industry, embracing technology, and participating in the industry's professional organizations. 'Jack' Jr. always kept public safety at the forefront of his community involvement. Today, the business continues on with Jack’s three daughters at the helm, Andrea Pendergast, Danette Atsalis and Terri Anne Haidinger.
