Nauset Sea Scout Ship 72 (ages 14-20) and Nauset Explorer Club 72 (ages 11-13) are planning an open house to introduce high school and middle school youth, parents and the public to the exciting year-round opportunities that exist within these groups. In addition there will be a nautical yard sale, and several sailboats for sale on display.

The Open House will be held at the landship/clubhouse located at 46 Beach Road (rear site) in Orleans, on Saturday June 8 from 11-4. Event takes place rain or shine. Free soda and hot dogs will be provided.

Members of these two groups get hands-on boating and water safety skills, and build life skills, while exploring local marine resources and maritime career opportunities. Several of the organization’s vessels used by youth will be on display at the open house, including a historic 26’ Race Point surf rescue pulling boat and a 26’ O’Day sloop. Scouts and leaders will provide hands-on activities such as navigating, knot tying, and oar handling during the event.

In addition to learning skills in leadership, seamanship, and fellowship, Scouts and Explorers participate in various activities and field trips that may include tall ship sailing, boat building, marine rescue and survival, marine science and technology, and much more.
