MAN CHARGED AFTER ATTACKING POLICE OFFICERS
On Thursday, June 13, 2019, at approximately 3PM, Yarmouth Police Officers were sent to a home on Devonshire Lane in Yarmouthport to execute a Temporary Involuntary Hospitalization often referred to as ‘Section 12’ on the behalf medical professionals.
A Section 12 allows emergency restraint and hospitalization of persons posing risk of serious harm and is often conducted by Police Officers who bring the person to the hospital for emergency care due to dangerous behaviors and concerns by family members and/or medical professionals.
At approximately the same time, the Yarmouth Police Emergency 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call from family members reporting that the man was at the home and bleeding.
Yarmouth Police Officers are familiar with the man due to numerous past incidents of dangerous behaviors at the residence and in the community.
Patrol Officers arrived at the home and were confronted by the man who drove up to them in his vehicle.
The man was extremely agitated, aggressive, and threatening.
Patrol Officers used de-escalation techniques in attempt to calm him and encouraged him to cooperate and get help at the hospital.
The man did not cooperate and attempted to get into his vehicle and drive away.
Patrol Officers feared he would cause a motor vehicle crash and could harm himself and others and stopped him.
The man fought violently with the Officers, kicking one in the chest and kneeing another in the stomach.
The attack was overcome and the man was taken by ambulance by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department to Cape Cod Hospital for mental health evaluation and treatment.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
The Yarmouth Police Department has contacted the Registry of Motor Vehicles requesting his license to be suspended and have summonsed him to court for the crimes committed.
