This summer the Provincetown Theater is proud to present a 40th anniversary production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street starring Tony Award nominated leading man Tom Hewitt in the title role. An intimate production of ten actors, directed by David Drake, Mr. Hewitt’s revenge-driven killer will be joined onstage by one of Cape Cod’s greatest leading ladies, Trish La Rose, as the indomitable pie-baker Mrs. Lovett. Both performers will be making their Provincetown Theater debuts with the production.

Performances for Sweeney Todd begin July 8th and run Mondays thru Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. thru August 29th at the Provincetown Theater, 238 Bradford Street in Provincetown, MA. Tickets can be purchased in advance at, or by calling 508.487.7487. Tickets can also be obtained at the Provincetown Theater Downtown Box Office, 230 Commercial Street, daily from 12noon - 4pm.

A Musical Thriller, the Victorian-age Sweeney Todd tells the tale of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street as he seeks to avenge his stolen wife and daughter thru a rash of ghastly throat-slitting murders. Aiding Mr. Todd in his bloody gallop is the wily Mrs. Lovett, who wastes no time in seeing how such human carnage could be fiscally useful in filling up meat pies at her floundering little bake shop.

Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Sweeney Todd is Stephen Sondheim’s most lush, lyrical and operatic score (“Pretty Women,” “Johanna,” “Nothing’s Going to Harm You”) -- and ironically, also one of his funniest (“The Worst Pies in London,” “Try a Little Priest”). The Provincetown Theater production is under the Musical Direction of John Thomas.

Alongside Mr. Hewitt and Ms. La Rose, the stellar cast of Sweeney Todd in Provincetown features Megan Amorese, Tatiana Chavez, David Marques, Madison Mayer, Eric McNaughton, Sean Potter, Christopher Sidoli, and John Strumwasser.

Tom Hewitt has starred on Broadway in Chicago, The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, Dracula, as well as the revival of The Rocky Horror Show, in which he was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Frank ‘N’ Furter.

Trish La Rose has been dazzling audiences for years now at the Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster, MA - starring most recently in their productions of Merrily We Roll Along, Mamma Mia!, and as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.

The creative team for Sweeney Todd includes Set Design by Ellen Rousseau, Lighting Design by John Salutz, Costume Design by Carol Sherry, and Sound Design by Sam Sewell.
