It's July and the hermit crabs have returned to Cape Tradewinds in Orleans.

If you're looking for a unique gift check out Cape Tradewinds' pet hermit crabs and their famous "Crabitat" kits.

Crabs of all sizes can be acquired in pairs along with all of their necessary habitats and supplies.   These active critters were captivating passers-by as they swarmed around their giant bowl.

The turn-key "Crabitat" package includes everything you need to get started with pet hermit crabs:

  • Two hermit crabs of your choice
  • Choice of square, plastic enclosure of the wire "Hermit Crab Hotel" enclosure
  • Gravel (for digging)
  • Water sponge (how crabs get their drinking water)
  • Food dish
  • Hermit crab food
  • An shelter for inside the enclosure

The full "Crabitat" kit is only $35.

We like the "Hermit Crab Hotel" because the wire mesh lets the crabs climb.

The helpful staff at Cape Tradewinds can give you the basics on hermit crab care.  You can find lots more info about caring for pet hermit crabs at http://pethermitcrabs.org/

Cape Tradewinds is located at 8 Canal Road in Orleans, next to Mandy's Cape Creamery and across from Cape Escape Golf.

See the video below and listen to the sounds of dozens of crabs jockeying for position in the habitat.
