Ladies Shoal Troll is July 20th

Osterville Anglers Club to Benefit American Cancer Society

On a particular Saturday morning once a summer, anglers can spy boats of dozens of women off the shore of Osterville, calling to each other, having fun and ruminating on their chances for the day. But, it’s no ordinary weekend cast; they are on a life-saving mission.

This is the Osterville Anglers Club’s annual Ladies Shoal Troll and all of the proceeds benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Cape Cod (www.MakingStridesWalk.org/CapeCodMA). Would you please consider a feature story on this eight-year-old event? A flyer is also attached.

“There’s a whole lot of anticipation when the boats start backing up to the weigh station,” said William J. “Bill” Ferretti, Manager of the Osterville Anglers' Club. “There’s a lot of energy and camaraderie.”

This year’s Ladies Shoal Troll is set for Saturday, July 20, at the Osterville Anglers Club. Fishing runs 6 a.m. – 1 p.m., weigh-in is 1 – 3 p.m., and a casual cook-out and awards ceremony runs 3 – 5 p.m. There is a captains meeting the day prior, on Friday, July 19. The event typically draws about 70 participants and about 100 to attend the after-party.

Volunteer Missy McGraw, who co-chairs the event, is pictured in the photo included below, which you are welcome to use. Co-chair Robert “Bob” Lewis says many people look forward to the event because they know the money raised will help support local residents on Cape Cod. Donations support the American Cancer Society’s groundbreaking breast cancer disease research and provide for a helpline at 800-227-2345 for anyone to call with cancer-related questions day or night. Money raised funds the hundreds of free rides given annually to cancer patients on the Cape to get to their treatment appointments, plus it funds free information and support to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable.

The Ladies Shoal Troll is open to anyone, including non-members, but you must have use of your own boat. Anyone interested in registering can contact Ferretti at 508-420-4336 or [email protected].
