From the Oak Bluffs Police Department:

Person in distress in water off East Chop

At about 12:30 p.m. today, the Oak Bluffs police/fire patrol boat deployed for a report of a person who fell off a boat and was being pulled by the current in the East Chop area of Nantucket Sound.

When Oak Bluffs emergency personnel arrived on scene, they learned a Good Samaritan boater helped the person out of the water, and on to their boat. The person reported being uninjured, and was reunited with their boat shortly after, which had been anchored off East Chop.

We thank all those who responded to the scene to render aid to include the Good Samaritan, Oak Bluffs Harbormaster, United States Coast Guard, TowBoatUS, and Edgartown Police/Fire.
