Wareham DNR Investigating Paddle Boat Found Adrift

Boat not labeled, search for person in water required...
This abandoned paddle boat might have been pushed out to sea as junk, but WDNR is still required to search for a person in the water. (WDNR photos)

From the Wareham Department of Natural Resources:

This evening at approximately 8:00pm, WDNR Officers monitoring the VHF radio received a call for a water emergency on VHF Channel 16 regarding an unmanned and adrift red/pink paddleboat in between Onset Bay Marina and Point Independence Yacht Club.

While the paddleboat is in rough shape, and it may have just been pushed out to sea as garbage, any such calls like this must be handled with a priority response and treated as a possible person in the water. The one thing missing from this, a label to identify the owner. Always label your non-powered watercraft!

The WDNR is seeking the owner of this paddleboat. Even if you dont want it anymore, we will dispose of it but we want to confirm that nobody is missing.

Please do not discard of your broken paddleboats, canoes, kayaks and other non-powered watercraft into the ocean, this triggers an unneeded emergency response. Thank you to Onset Fire and Wareham PD for the assistance!
